St. Charles Borromeo Church is the pre-eminent baroque church in the Low Countries. We can recognise Rubens’s hand in the architecture, as well as in the paintings and decoration. Let yourselves be overwhelmed by the façade, with its catholic symbols and figures, and by the numerous playful and exuberant embellishments.

St. Charles Borromeo Church, which is situated in an enjoyable square called Conscienceplein, is no doubt one of the most beautiful baroque churches in Belgium. The magnificent façade of this former Jesuit church is full of symbolism, combining both religious and theatrical elements.
Inside, the church looks very much like a celestial ballroom, due to its galleries. The portico altar has an ingenious system that allows the paintings to be changed three times a year.
Another highlight is Our Lady’s Chapel with its original baroque furnishings.
