The Hofkamer – Discover a hidden heritage gem in the heart of Antwerp
In a green oasis, hidden behind the gate of the historical site Den Wolsack (meaning bag of wool), you will discover ‘The Hofkamer’. This unique building with a rich history takes you back to the 18th century and exudes the luxury and grandeur pursued by merchant Franciscus Van den Bogaert and his wife Maria Anne Roggens in 1772. They commissioned an unknown architect to create a stunning show-off and reception room that highlighted their wealth and status.

Flemish Masterpiece: Gods on Mount Olympus
The absolute highlight of The Hofkamer is undoubtedly the majestic ceiling painting ‘Gods on Mount Olympus’. Covering an area of 65 m², this work is the largest ceiling painting on canvas in Western Europe. Will you soon recognise Zeus, Hera, Athena, Poseidon and the other Greek gods on the canvas?

An extraordinary luxury toilet

Only the garden and the ground floor with the ceiling painting are accessible. There is no lift. However, text, visual and audio material about the upstairs rooms is available.

How to reach the monument? Can you park your car nearby? Can you get to the monument by public transport?
The Hofkamer is located in a side street of the Grote Markt, in the historic centre of Antwerp, and is easily accessible. Pre-metro stop Groenplaats is a 5-minute walk away, Antwerp Central Station a 20-minute walk. Non-residents can park in the underground pay parking Grote Markt, 260 metres away.
