Fritz Mayer van den Bergh was first and foremost a collector.  He was also one with a lot of energy, because during his short life he collected around 3,000 works of art. Fritz collected all kinds of art: paintings, sculptures, books, cupboards, … And he travelled all over Europe with his mother. These adventures are reflected in the warm and homely Museum Mayer van den Bergh, which is full of art treasures that never cease to amaze and enchant.

This interactive guided tour is a playful journey of discovery through the Museum Mayer van den Bergh. After getting all dressed up, they will discover what art is or can be. And thanks to the children’s portraits, the similarities and differences between the past and the present become very tangible. Paintings of boys who wear girls’ dresses until the age of 7 will undoubtedly loosen the tongues of these young art connoisseurs!

Practical information:

  • This interactive guided tour with workshop is suitable for children from the third grade of kindergarten and the first year of primary school
  • Maximum 14 children per group, maximum 2 groups at the same time
  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Museum admission: free for classes accompanied by a teacher

Tuesday - Sunday: 10:00-17:00
The museum is also closed on the following holidays: 1 January, 1 May, Ascension Day, 1 November and 25 December
Is there a workshop paired with this tour?

Yes, there is. During the interactive part of the tour, every child will get to dress up in a suitable historical outfit and they themselves will model for a painting.

Is this tour wheelchair accessible?

No, the Museum Mayer van den Bergh is an historic house with a lot of stairs and several floors. Because this tour takes place over all of the floors of the museum, it is not wheelchair accessible. There is no elevator for visitors in the Museum Mayer van den Bergh.

Can the class group eat their lunch in the Museum Mayer van den Bergh before or after the guided tour?

No, the Museum Mayer van den Bergh does not have a museum café or a separate room for picnics. Nearby is the Theaterplein, a large square with an awning where the class group can eat sandwiches in the afternoon.

Can the number of students per group be increased so that one class can be divided into two groups ?
