This tour lets you discover how the table was set for noblemen and wealthy citizens in Europe from the 16th century to the present day. What is served and how do people eat?
Taste and aesthetics change over time. Cooking and the way it is served becomes art.
Eating is a total experience and enjoyment is an added value. During the 20th century, people ate out more. Only for festive occasions was the table lavishly set. During the lockdowns, there was renewed interest in fine cutlery and crockery. Contemporary designers explore the boundary between utilitarian and artistic objects in their designs.

Visit DIVA, the museum of diamonds, jewellery and silver in Antwerp, the world diamond capital for 575 years.
The tour starts in the festive Dining Room at DIVA. In the Trading Room, the emphasis lies on diamonds and luxury products, in the Atelier, on precious metals. The tour ends in the Room of Wonder where you will be introduced to extraordinary objects executed by artists and silversmiths commissioned by wealthy merchants eager to display their wealth.
On this guided tour, look back at Antwerp’s role as the leading trading city in the 16th and 17th centuries. That international trade drove the production of art and luxury. Moreover, Antwerp has the second largest port in Europe, where goods from all over the world arrived and were distributed.
