Flat-cum-studio Jozef Peeters

Jozef Peeters (1895-1960) was one of the pioneers of Abstract Art in Belgium. In the late 1920s, he used his small flat-cum- studio near the River Scheldt as a canvas, decorating all the walls, doors and ceilings in it. Step inside this unique, 3D artwork.

Peeters designed almost everything himself, from the pendant lights down to the cupboards and beds. As such, the flat became a manifesto of his views on art, seamlessly blending architecture with visual art. After Peeters’s death, his daughter Godelieve chose to preserve the ensemble of colours, furniture and paintings as a precious, personal work of art, that is frozen in time.
